Remote central locking MK2.5

Postby Real Rayzor » Thu, 09 Apr 2015 9:37 +0000

Hi all.. anybody here fitted remote central locking to their car. My MK2.5 has central locking via the key but I hate having to use the key all the time as I have only 1 key and I'm afraid I'll end up damaging it.
Can anyone offer their advise of what they did.
I have seen the eBay kits and they do seem to be worth a try.

Hey Razyor,

My advice would be to go and get an alarm installed that would have a unit for central locking. It suited me anyway for my previous and current MX5.

Alarms can range from €150 to €600, I went for a decent Clifford system and like you, it had the central locking via the key. The alarm installers can install a system that will lock and unlock your doors when the alarm is armed/disarmed via the fob, so in essence, it's two birds one stone.

Also, in terms of only having one key, there is probably no harm in getting a second key for it. The likes of autokey off the N7 near Dublin can program and cut keys. You'll be thankful of having a spare.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the advice Oregato. My car already has an alarm so that's a no go. I've gone and ordered an eBay unit so we'll see how it goes.
As Robert has said getting a key done is not always successful. Eventually I'll probably get a new ignition with two keys.
I'll let ye know how I get on with remote thingy.
