NCT prepRight this is my first time putting a mx5 through a nct. Just wondering a few thing. Mine is lowered on coilovers. There is about 100mm ground clearance under the front splitter. Will it catch?. Plus iv jap plates on it. Would i be better off throw them off and not chance it. Iv no rear fogs but iv jdm fogs on the front. Will i wipp them off too. Anything else i should look out for?
Re: NCT prepDo your Jap plates have the registered county on them? If not! It's a fail. I would believe that not having a rear fog s a no no as well. Not sure though. My car was pretty low the last time and there was nothing said. As for everything else just the usual.. make sure you have a spare wheel, Jack and wheel brace. All bulbs are working and I always throw a shot of redex in the petrol tank and drive her hard before hand.
Good luck with it. 2002 MK2.5 Sunlight Silver (sold)

Re: NCT prepWouldn't worry about any of those things too much.. Go for the test and if you fail you'll know for what. All the things you've mentioned are visuals, so no fee for retest if you'd have one. As long as there's no silly camber and she's not scraping, all in working order and no horrific rust- I think you'll have no problem..

Re: NCT prepOne of the lads reckon whip off the front fogs and pull the switch. Ye might put it through and see anyways. It did pass for the last owner i suppose haha
Re: NCT prepAs I said, don't worry too much. If your fogs work- no problem. As Real Rayzor mentioned, make sure she's all tidy and you've spare wheel, jack etc. your fluids all good. Make sure the wheel nuts are exposed if you've caps on. Let us know how you get on. Good luck!

Re: NCT prepThanks guy. Booked in for the 2nd of november. Hopefully she passes. I know it will its just you would be a tad nervious ye know ha
Re: NCT prep
Once the ride height isn't a hindrance, it should be okay on that score. When you say Jap plates, are you referring to the sizing ? If so, just make sure that the plate has the "IRL" marking and also the county written on top of the plate e.g. Corcaigh, Baile Athat Cliath etc. You will have no probs with the fogs. Mine has the same set up i.e. fogs in front but none at the rear and it has never been an issue as regards NCT testing. You may want to cover the side reflectors on the bumpers up with tape just in case. They have been known to fail for these if they are on show. Headlamp alignment is another popular cause for failure. 1992 Eunos Roadster BRG V-Spec 1.6
Re: NCT prepjust realised I haven't had a spare in the boot for the last... 4 maybe 5 tests and passed... completely forgot about it!
Also, if you have a limited diff, tell them, they won't put the car on the rollers and will test handbrake with a mobile unit. Section 21 note 8 The use of a roller brake tester is not appropriate on hybrid vehicles or on vehicles with a permanently engaged four wheel drive, limited slip differential or belt driven transmission
Re: NCT prepYe mine is a jap import with a limited slip diff. Thats interesting never knew that now. Hmmmm nice to know. Cheers for that mate
Re: NCT prepHave a 98 jap rs mk2. Failed last year on emissions and headlamp alignment. Did Italian tune up and dipetane thing before test but no good as CAT was completely fecked. Replaced it with 2nd hand one and flew through. There are no rear fogs on the car only on front with switch beside electric windows on/of switch to right of steering wheel. As far as I know if there is no rear fog switch in the car they cant fail you for not having rear fogs. Jap square plate on front - no problem. Orange side reflectors on both front and back bumpers - no problem. Good luck with it anyway.
