MX5 1992 to restore - will give for FREE to honour Partner

A long list of problems with the car and an attempted theft with the soft top roof slashed 1992 MX5 black Mazda - will give away for FREE to a vintage car enthusiast who would be ready to put time, effort and money to restore it and put it back on the road for their own enjoyment. The attempted theft happened yesterday on the Halloween night when I was visiting my Partner in the hospice.....

This post and the offer is in honour of my partner, Paul, who had bought the car for me 8 years ago. Paul died of the MND in Harold's Cross Hospice today.... He always wanted to see the car back on the road again.... It has not been in use for a long time for reasons that I'll explain.... A genuine interest and a will to keep the car for restoring are required......

I spoke to Ray yesterday and he committed to work on restoring the car in the spirit of honoring my Partner over a couple of years or so..... which I'm sure you would be ready to do as well.... As of today, however, the car would be going to him unless he changes his mind.... Hello Yolo - thank you for your kind words.... Yes, Ray committed to keep a documented build thread at one point... He also suggested putting a sort of plaque in honour of Paul somewhere in the car when it's done.... I really could not wish for more and it's so unbelievably comforting.... I'm hoping to revisit this thread in the future when the car is ready to fly again either to read from Ray that it's done or let you all know myself that it's done!

Hi all.. yes Daria has quite generously given the car to me. I am very excited and proud to take on and begin this project. Thank you again Daria.
My plan is to pick up the car from Daria and bring it back down here to Clare and store it in a safe dry garage. I intend on documenting the entire process with the intention of giving Daria a book with pictures and notes of the build process. My intention without even seeing the car is do a complete stock rebuild over a time frame of 18 months.

I'm very sorry to hear about your tragic loss but what a lovely gesture in giving the car to an mx5 Ireland member to get it restored . I happen to know Ray and have no doubts but that the work will be first class .
Like your Paul we love these cars and I'm sure I speak for all members on here when I say that we are looking forward to seeing the car being returned to its former glory .

Hi all, thank you for all your posts.... Paul's funeral service was today and it was a true celebration of Paul's life, personality and achievements... I had a chance to have a tribute to Paul read by the celebrant and mentioned our shared passion for this little car which he so much loved to drive.... i think the car should be restored and put back on the road,and raffled by the boys here on the mx5ireland owners site.

all money can then be given to the harolds cross hospice,a worthy tribute to your partner.

so the car will make a great donation to the hospice,and someone in the mx5 scene could win it.

any parts needed could be found within the club here. free of charge.

a worthy plan i think.
