Now we're motoring. I think that's pretty much what the bride to be has in mind

Is it worth making a wanted ad for here or will this thread suffice?

Another question, auto VS. manual. Is there pros and cons to each? I' finding a lot of the cars for sale are auto. Are they reliable, responsive and still enjoyable to drive or is it a case of manual is always better? The car will never be getting tracked but enjoyable back road driving experience is a must.

You could always get a Mariner Blue Mx5 and that would cover you for the ''something blue'' tradition

You could always change it from an auto to manual down the line. It wouldn't be that expensive. I'm currently changing one over to manual.

That's certainly an option. Tbh I don't think the auto will bother me for this summer.

I'm going to view the above MX5 on Sunday. The seller tells me that the timing belt hasn't been done. They have also said the drivers seat has wear on the bolster (cracking).

What is a fair price for the car and would the above work be expensive to rectify? I assume a good condition seat could be gotten easily enough from a breakers.

Perfect thanks. I've arranged to view that one tomorrow. I'm trying to figure out a fair target price for it.

TBH it's not a bad price. You can bargain some money off because the t-belt needs doing. Depending on the condition of the car I would offer about 1500 and see where it goes. Be sure to check for rust on the rear sills and inner arches. If they are rusty your talking 500+ to get sorted. Check the chassis rails, look under the car and you will see two lengths of metal running the length of the car. They are the rails, the continue to the front of the car, open the bonnet and you will see the either side of the engine. Get your hand in there and feel for any bubbling and obvious signs of rust. If you find rust there walk away from it. Bring a torch and have a good look at them. Good luck with it.

Now that's a very informative reply. Thanks for that. Some good rust areas to keep an eye on.

I'll reserve full judgement on the price until I actually get down there and look at it but I appreciate the input. Il

Well I bought the above car this morning. Happy out to say the least.

Now to find an original radio and a pair of undamaged seats.
