2.5 manifold onto a mk2

Postby Merlot man » Wed, 11 May 2016 1:43 +0000

Hello all
i'm considering changing the manifold and down pipe on my 1.8 mk2 to a 2.5 version as I understand , from keith tannars book, it gives a small power boost to a normally aspirated car and was wondering if the 2.5 manifold and down pipe are a straight swap to the mk2 head and mk2 centre section . I don't wish to change the centre section as its a quality s/s system .
Thanks in advance
Brian

I happened across this today on nutz Brian. I think it should answer your question.

2.5 manifold is better quality and has better flow compared to mk2 and is a direct swap to the block. Unfortunately, as far as I remember, downpipe and mid sections are different. Mk2.5 has cat on the downpipe +mid section with silencer and mk2 has downpipe +mid section with cat and silencer. Different lengths and angles would require cutting and joining if you want to keep your existing mid section. Possible but some fiddling required.. Don't think that is what you're after..

Hi Brian,

I might actually be interested in that mid section if you do decide to get rid of it! I've a hole starting to come in my own one!

Thanks Robert , if I was going to go for this idea it would you I'd be talking to , if you ever get these in S/S please let me know .
Bill thanks for the interest but i'll keep what I have for now , my advice is to talk to Robert , I'm sure he has some standard ones ; it would be cheaper and easier than a repair , I got this S/S item from him so worth a phone call !
Thanks to everyone for their posts and advice

My own one is fine for now Brian, I'd only really change it if I could get a S/S one but I'm in no rush with it!

Thanks,
Bill
