Re: Packing the 5 for a French road trip !Thanks everyone for the tip! I wouldn't have thought that ADAC insures drivers outside of Germany. I'll call them tomorrow.
Thanks to Merlot for borrowing your thread a little bit. Good luck with the trip!
Re: Packing the 5 for a French road trip !
your E111 or what ever its called not is loads of cover for europe, ADAC is very good , i got cover for a bike trip in 2013 and then crashed the back in sligo that autunm. I called the ADAC and they said no problem they would bring the bike to nearest garage, i explained that i lived in Mayo & my bike was left in a farmers shed and the nearest bike 'garage' was probably galway. They said that was fine and if it was more convient i could organise the pickup myself and they would reinburse me after i sent in claim, which they did in a speedy manner. Can't argue with that level of service
Re: Packing the 5 for a French road trip !Check your own policy for Euro breakdown assist... you may not need an additional policy.

Re: Packing the 5 for a French road trip !
Thanks! I'm with 123.ie, they said no Euro breakdown assist from them. They're quite strict on the cover as well, they want to know where, when, which countries etc.
Re: Packing the 5 for a French road trip !I'd like to share the details for ADAC if anyone else needs it as I had a very nice chat with them while I was joining.
They do speak English, if not enough to go through the joining chat they will pass you onto someone else (and giggle in the background while that person is speaking in English with you The annual membership plus (covers the whole EU) is now 83 Euro. They accept bank transfers only, no credit cards as usual (saving every penny), and will start your membership from the next day even though the payment will arrive next week. They will want to send everything by post (which is fine) but if you ask they'll also send all the details (membership details, policy and bank transfer details) by email, too. They were also very happy to hear how I found about the membership (by so many recommendations here).
Re: Packing the 5 for a French road trip !
That's handy info ! I've been meaning to contact them myself as I've been travelling the continent for a while now in a VW T5 camper over the years and I've never had breakdown assist (you'd imagine this would be a standard item with camper insurance !). I reckon I've pushed my luck for long enough so I'm going to go with ADAC as well before "an event" occurs !! I presume you can use online banking for the bank transfer ? 1992 Eunos Roadster BRG V-Spec 1.6
Re: Packing the 5 for a French road trip !
You're very welcome! Yes, it seems a standard SEPA money transfer as I just received their bank account details (IBAN and BIC) and my membership number to put along the payment (they charge extra 4 euro for first time and bank transfer - the guy on the phone didn't know how to explain other means of payment but it seems it's available in Germany only, not sure). So, 88 euro for first year but since it's EU wide it seems a good value (considering how much the AA costs here for Ireland+EU assistance).
Re: Packing the 5 for a French road trip !Yes, you're quite right - it is very good value for money. The general feeling in the campervan community is that ADAC provide very good cover. Well worth the premium I reckon !
