NCT..Shower of f***ing robbing Bast**ds

Recently bought a focus estate for herself,it went through the nct two weeks ago and had to be retested for 2 minor incursions.

Retested today and passed, got my cert....

VALID UNTIL END OF MAY 09. WTF??

Promptly rang the call centre and some little sneering upstart tells me "tough luck, when you buy a 2nd hand car you also buy it's history"

Seems that the nct had lapsed some months ago, but the bloody car was sitting in the dealers lot for at least six months!!

Contacted the dealer who apologised for not informing me at the time of purchase and he agreed to cover half the cost of the NCT, but he also promised me that he would raise the matter at SIMI level.He also said that I was the first case of this that he had come across, although he did accept that maybe other cases didn't bother to complain.

My question is, what if The car was purchased after a two year lapse on NCT?? When you get it tested and passed, do you then have to re-submit the car for testing as that test probably only covers you for the past two years and not the forthcoming two years..if you get my drift

Can't beleive its the first case the dealer came across, normal practise to back date the nct or everyone would not bother to get tested till they get pulled for it then go and get 2 years on it. Normally i would get the dealer to nct the car if it was up.

Did an "as seen" deal, only there was no disc to be seen. I suppose it's a lesson learnt

As in if the car was march then the NCT goes from then
not when it's tested as you would think.

hi PJ, the 1.6 . Had a toyota estima (import) but was getting VERY expensive to run what with diesel prices shooting up and most of the journeys were short stop-start around town. Also as an 8 seater I wasn't needing it anymore because it turned out that the only time the eight seats were occupied was when I was "volunteered" to carry kids to football matches etc.,
Happy enough with the focus now that it has got past the test . Suppose I'd better tax it now

Just got rid of my estima for the same reason John.... too much diesel.... , but a bloody great 8 seater......I got a scenic to replce it.......

I had a simiilar problem with the NCT for my BMW, I had to do it in March and then again in October........Pain in the arse..............But similar thing happened when applying for the NCT for the Eunos, but I got talkin to a lovely lady in the NCT place (who has a daughter the same name as me) and she was able to find out that you can do the NCT up to 2 months earlier, so I was able to push it out as there was only a few months between the 1st test and the next due date so I onld did it once........If the time is within a few months you may be able to swing it.........If not you have to do it twice..........

It's on the NCTt reminder as i recall and was advertised
on the radio. You can do it 3 months before hand.

That sucks but. "I would dream of that, you dont know you have been born" etc etc in bad Monty Python yorkshiremen talking about how tough their lives are ripoff.

Basically, got my 2002 mark2.5 in england and MOTed it. After moving here, i found out about the NCT (MOT not good enough apparently despite being more thorough! and more regular!. I thought screw it and got that done only to find out it was valid for only 4 months! (Didnt know the rules etc etc) so just had to it again. Therefore in the space of 7months, i paid for MOT and 2 NCTs. As you said, the guys at the NCT place just shrugged the shoulders and said tough! basket cases.

So, whilst it was partly my fault (not knowing the rules), i am still livid about it.

The test can be done up to 6 months prior to the actual renewal date - I put the BMW through in July of last year, and the ticket is valid until January 2010. Dunno if this only applies to first test or not.
