Won't start

Postby Pops » Mon, 19 Dec 2016 2:15 +0000

Had parked it in the garage on Wednesday, on Friday it wouldn't start. Checked for spark, nothing nada no spark, no power going to the cam angle sensor, but had12v at the coil , no sound from fuel pump but thought the pressure was probably up enough anyway, checked fuses , all ok. Checked relay , clicks ok when turning on ignition, stumped.
However, thanks to dr google I found a post from someone who had dealt with a similar problem who made a passing comment about a dodgy relay, thankfully my neighbor also happens to have a same year 5 so I borrowed his relay and the car started.
So today, a trip to the scrapper, a "new " relay from a 2000 Mazda 323 for €5 and the car started perfectly

Seems to be running better now but I had to reset the idle.
Made up a diagnostic tester with a piece of wire and a led from Maplin, thankfully no fault codes came up

Original was a denso B6 S8 but I had read that the green imasen B5 B4 is fitted to the mk2.5 , so as the scrapper only had the imasen one I thought that for the sake of €5 it was worth trying, the original one on eBay is about $80 (us) so I was afraid I might have to bend over if I went to the dealer for a new one.
After fitting it the car started easier and quicker than before , only thing is the tick over wasn't right but I set it as good as possible using the "in diagnostic mode", waiting for santa to bring me a timing light so I can set that properly ( only set it by ear after doing the o ring), I'm thinking that all the attempts at getting it going ( including disconnecting the battery) must have upset the previous settings. Anyway, so far so good

Ps. What I found while searching the net is what happened to me, car was driving fine ( seemed down on power but ok) and would most likely have driven as long as I wanted until the engine was turned off (parked in the shed)then is when it wouldn't start
