MK3

Postby ZoomZoomFunFun » Mon, 10 Apr 2017 5:35 +0000

Hi everyone,

Looking at a few mk3.
I am a bit concerned with the amount of engine failure reports people are claiming

Edit: changed plan to an NB after looking into the mk3s a bit further

Insurance on NBs

Postby ZoomZoomFunFun » Tue, 11 Apr 2017 9:46 +0000

What companies do you guys use to insure NBs?
Was quoted 2500 for an 05 the other week!!!

Can they be put on classic policies if they are older than 15, so around 2002 and older?

Thanks!

You could try Autoline for a classic quote. I think a few on here may have NB's insured with them. The general rule is 20+ years but they may
stretch to 15 years.

I can't remember the exact price but it was somthing like €215 fc and 5000 miles limit .
You MUST have another main car/van , the mx5 can't be the only one .
It will just bring you to the Alps and back with a bit of driving here as well .
You can get it cheaper but less mileage , quote mx5 Ireland as your car club or the mx5 owners club in England
Well worth a ring
You will find their no in the insurance section

@johnv, couple of potential problems are oil and the expansion coolant tank. You should prob keep an eye on your oil level (I do mine every month) as this can lead to serious engine problems.

You should also replace the coolant expansion tank every 60k miles. I replaced mine at 55k as a precaution. You should deffo replace it if it has gone very yellow. (Should be white) this is the usual sign to replace it. Keep an eye on the coolant level too and only use FL22 coolant.
