Postby MX5Spares » Sun, 07 May 2017 4:14 +0000

1991 BBR turbo mk1 originally white.Needs refurb but not really rotten.Very clean in engine bay.Not running at moment.Rare enough item I am told.I have to get more info.As you can see from engine bay its not really rotten although needs some welding etc.Very happy with the purchase.

Will do.Andrew done some research and its 1 of 100only white BBR cars .Not the UK BBR but original Mazda Japan BBR spec.It has the B in the chassis number .Most other mx5 have P instead.I am hoping it may be the missing Le Mans one that was never registered. They made 24 Le Mans cars , 18 were green/orange logo and have the 18 chassis numbers on the website. There are 5 others registered.2 black, 2 red and 1 was repainted by Mazda when new in blue colour. No colour for the 6th missing one but remember this car was not registered new until 2001 , yes 2001, so it may be the missing one.Hopefully

Correct. You are not as curious as me!! I am getting scattered info but looks like it MIGHT be the missing Le Mans version simple because it was not registered until 2001.That may be why Gov.co.uk do not have chassis number/ colour etc only after 2001.

This is sounding really interesting !
I assume the owners club in England would have a list of the Le Mans editions chassis numbers ?
Further proof that money is attracted to money
I wish you the very best of luck with your search !

Hi Brian, they have only 18 of the 24 chassis numbers, which I have list of and my one is within the range but not actually on the list, and they told me 2 Le Mans were red, 2 were black and 1 was white(All 24 were not in the orange /green livery.News to me too..Other colour unknown due to be unregistered.Same as mine. Not reg,d til 2001.!! May be grasping at straws but in with a shout anyway.BBR UK said they did not keep chassis numbers at that time .Records only from ND models. Bit unproffessional

worth contacting Doug Passell on the UK's MX5oc forum, he has the full list I think.

*edit* - check out this thread where he discusses the blue one :

Hi Steve.Very interesting about the blue one .I heard of it being resprayed by Mazda UK at request of new owner.I have PM,d Doug re my car, awaiting reply.Hopefully its good news but its BBR at least if not Le Mans.It has the split Le Mans exhaust manifold which regular BBR,s did not have.Needs total refurb really and bit engine work but not too bad.I have sorted worse !!

Update. Thanks to Steve I spoke to Doug in Uk and my car is BBR, not Le Mans unfortunately but great all the same.Apparently according to Doug (The Le Mans archivist ) all Le Mans were originally RED cars. No other colour. The 18 Green/Orange ones did sell but the last 6 were very slow to sell as at the time , most people had no real interest in them and 5 people only bought them if they were resprayed by Mazda UK. 2 Black, 2 Red and 1 Blue.No record of the 6th one but it was returned to Mazda Distributors UK as no one would buy it !! Mad stuff. Then again the green/orange livery did not suit most people.Bit tacky and colour scheme is nasty really?? I know its in celebration of 787B? Le Mans win in 1991 but shitty colours. In saying that I would not mind owning one!! Anyway onwards and upwards with the BBR.Shell is quite good but needs repaint and also engine not running as previous owner attempted to do valve stem oil seals in place ,without head off, which is very awkward job.Its head off job for me and valves reseated , seals, skim etc.It will definitely need full repaint inside and out but interior panels/floors ,sills are are all good.Currently poxy VW Scirocco type green metallic.Does not suit it really in my opinion.Back to original white it is (if I ever get around to doing it)

Pity it turned out not to be the Le Mans - but still great it's a BBR.

Looking forward to seeing photos of how this progresses :-)
