Hey Ollie, a number of the club "veterans" have been reappearing on the yahoo list this week so I left a note there about the run. I suggested that they might use this run as an opportunity to renew acquaintances, might work!! (apologies to all concerned for the term "veterans", but didn't seem right to refer to ye as "old members")

John :D

Hi all,

Well I've be planning a route to take the 5's on this run and heres a map of the route we'll take over the slieve bloom mountains!
We'll be going right thru the middle - from Mountrath to Kinnity.

Image

The gentle rolling hills of the SLIEVE BLOOM MOUNTAINS rise from the central plains of Ireland, forming a natural link between Counties Laois and Offaly. They are at the cross-roads of Ireland half-way between Galway and Dublin, Belfast and Cork, and Donegal and Rosslare. Their central location makes the Slieve Bloom area an ideal base for mx5 owners to go sizeways around corners drifting like a good-un! Alternatively, you can chose it as an interesting place to break your journey when en-route to other parts of Ireland, or park up a do some tyre kicking!

The area is made up of forests, blanket bog of a type which is unique to Ireland, interspersed with hidden valleys of great character, and interest to the nature lover and open top roadster fan. It includes farmland bounded by hedgerows full of bird and plant life. The natural colours of the landscape are remarkable in any season. It is an extremely peaceful area which permits the opportunity to be close to nature and for you to hear your turbo whistling more than ever! Much of the higher reaches of the mountains have been designated as an Environmentally Protected area for special preservation (ahhh, fcuk offf John Gormley!), as an amenity for generations to come. As a consequence, there are plenty of sign-posted walks, explanatory boards regarding wildlife and flora and fauna, and designated picnic areas.

more details about the run to come! :D

Cloggy, if you do decide to go on the sunday.
We might meet up near Navan and head down?
