Rescued mine from the shed today, just a small trip to the motorfactors to pick up some parts for a meriva that failed the nct, track rod end, rear brake discs & pads and a drop link that the dust cover came off on one end even though it had no play in it it was still listed as a major fail

Nct is becoming a real money maker, one of my daughters was getting her car tested today, in the length of time she was waiting only one car passed the test, of course her 4 year old ASX failed due to rusty brake pipes at least it’s still covered by the garage she bought it from

Brought it out for a bit of a gallop this evening, some of the trip was more of a trot really, amazing the amount of 191 rental skodas on the road, at least they kept to the proper side of the road.

Picture isn’t great but looking back at Barna from the other side of the bay, it’s terrible to see all the windmills

Almost at the top of corkscrew hill, the smell off the car was fabulous after the drive up, I imagine if I went down it instead it would smell of brakes

Bishops quarter beach, I only found this while queuing up behind a slow moving herd of cattle, saw the sign for the beach and thought feck it I might as well have a look .
Some of the roads are in very poor condition but I’d nearly go back again just to drive up that corkscrew hill.
Trying to put the roof up at 10.15pm was a bitch, it had shrunk again even though I only put it down when I started the trip about 7.30pm, same stupid roof nearly drove me mad coming back , rattling from the hinges behind my right ear, squeak from the bottom of it and wind noise from the top , aaaraagh I hate this car but love it all the same

Sounds like a very nice way to spend an evening.

And doesn't this sum up 'old car' ownership very well.... 'I hate this car but love it all the same'!!!!

Found the reason for all the wind noise,,,left hand clamp not connected fully, Hopefully this is the reason for the rattles as well. I suppose I was lucky it didn’t lift up on the way back.
Is cow shite any good as a rust preventer

No idea about the rust preventative properties of cow shite, but I have found that it is difficult to get off the body work if left for a while.... Kinda sets like cement, and needs a lot of softening before being washed off.

It was late when I got home so just put the car in the shed, when I went out to it today to look at the roof I noticed the splashing on the bottom of the front wings, will have to wait till tomorrow now to get cleaned. Happy enough to have found the problem with the roof was as simple as not connected on one side

Thats brilliant. If I discover some easy fix I nearly want to sign up for an apprenticeship !! I love those drives. Best time for a 5. Makes me realise why I want one.

Washed & dried it, no more cow dung.

While trying to clean the rear plastic screen I noticed that the top of it seems to have fallen in, the roof bar doesn’t seem to come far enough forward, I’m wondering if it’s missing a strap or something to bring it as far forward as the join in the vinyl . This pic is after I’ve pulled the bar forward, should there be a strap between the two bars?, rear screen looks much better with it in this position

I don't know if there should be a strap or not. There's not one on mine. I just went out and took 2 photos of how the roof is on mine, and the bars seem closer together (but whether that's the way it should be, I don't know as it's a replacement hood).

Thanks for the pictures, your bars do look much closer together, the rear bar on mine seem to follow the red track mark on your pictures but I notice you have a glass screen so I suppose the frame is a bit different to my zipper plastic screen.

Going to lubricate the joints and work to top up & down a few times to see if it helps, shouldn’t be too difficult to rig up something to keep the bar up a bit, more reasons to spend some time in the shed

Out for a spin around part of connamarra today,

On the road between maam cross and costelloe I met about 8, real vintage open tourer cars accompanied by a Rolls Royce/ Bentley and a jag, they looked massive from my position.
The first one surprised me as we met on a bend, was impressive the speed he had going but I never thought that there might be more of them, if I did I’d have got some photos. They really looked the part with what looked like vintage clothing as well

They were something like this, fabulous to see something like these when totally unexpected

nice, very jealous pops! I'd intended to have my car back on the road this month but life (time) and 2 snapped bolts didn't allow it.
I've drilled out the bolts (they are for the battery clamp) and replaced them. Not an easy spot to get a drill into!
