Scarce mx5’s

Postby Pops » Thu, 22 Aug 2019 7:19 +0000

Having a week in albufeira, some great cars here such as mercs, Porsche, rolls Royce etc , have seen many convertibles (tin & fabric) with the roof closed but in the week I’ve only now spotted a mx5

Tourist train, probably good value, €5 for a daily ticket and hop on & off at any of the 4 main parts of town

These things were all over the place

Finally, on the way back to the airport this pulls up beside us

He wasn’t afraid of it either, our driver passed it then he passed us again disappeared off up the road and then around the corner comes a spotless red mk1 with the roof closed, no pic though.
So, in the week I saw 3 mx5’s, sun was so strong for the week I couldn’t really blame them for closing the roof but fair play to the guy in the black one,33deg with blistering sun and his bald patch facing directly to it

Nice to see one being used as intended - maybe he had the foresight to apply factor 50 (or above) before heading out with the roof down.

And what's this with the 2CV's.... they're starting to appear everywhere!

Cracking pictures. Its great weather for your trip. I thought the same about the 2CV's ?? I thought it was just me but they are turning up alot now - especially in the good weather. Does it upset anyone to say that I prefer them to the Beetle?? I saw a nice DS on DD this morning. Citroen were so progressive and had stunning designs back in the day.

I've seen the DS on DD too.... with hefty price tags. The 2 CVs aren't that cheap either, considering their lightweightedness (and they ain't no MX5!).

Just after finishing my studies, between 2008 and 2011, I had the chance to buy a partially refurbish DS, 1969, less than 3000, and two SMs, one working and a donator, both for 15000.

I had the money, but not where to put them, and it is something I regret.

I've had both ... at the same time even lol Very different machines but both fun, if given the choice I'd prob go for the 2cv tho, they're just so much fun to drive.
Happened to see an immaculate DS yesterday near Clarenbridge, greeny/bluey , gorgeous.

Enjoy your break, seems that old school cars can be kept going for ever with a small bit of care, I wonder if today’s models will still be as popular in 30 years

Yes, France is always a good place to spot older, cool, stock. I get the impression that most of the older stuff there are used as daily drivers.

Enjoy the hols!

I love French cars so it's like Nirvana at the moment ! So far on this trip, I have only spotted Mk1 MX5's in the UK. None in France yet !

I'm just coming into Dublin on the ferry from Cherbourgh after a few days in Normandy. Saw 2 Mk1s over there...one of them with IRL plates.
