What tyres ye running these days?

Postby Fla » Thu, 02 Jan 2020 12:46 +0000

Hi guys

I’ll have to put 4 new tyres on to pass the nct as I’d say my date on the tyres is well up. What are ye running now? I used to always run toyo tyres and loved them but I think the one I use is discontinued.

I know a lot used to run the rain sport 3 but I see they’ve updated that with the rain sport 5. Anyone try them yet?

Hi Fla, unless things have changed since last yearp the tyre date is only a fail advisory, at least it was for my fronts dated 2010

Oponeo are having a sale of some sorts, I've looked up the prices for the standard 14in but I doubt that's what you're using

.
The ones I got on the rear which I'm very happy with

I think I might change the ancient dunlops on the front as they seem hard even if I reduce the pressure

Hi guys

Ah I didn’t realize it was only a fail advisory. That said, with the way I drive I wouldn’t be taking chance with old rubber!

I spotted their “sale” buzz alright. I’m running 15’s and these came up last night when I was searching. I run Goodyear on my discovery and my work van and besides them wearing out fast due to my driving style they have always been very grippy.

These ones look interesting. Not a cool pattern or anything but low road noise and an A in the wet.

That looks like a good deal, don't forget to add the cost of fitting. I've heard the nct crowd are getting very picky lately so I don't know if it's still an advisory

Yup, it was an advisory on the 18th of Dec at least :-)

Hope you’re right Steve as I don’t want that dirty fail sticker on the window! I just found a set of Toyo proxies that are almost brand new in the barn but I must of bought them ten years ago! Thread is perfect though. I have had garages say before just take the date off with a sanding pad.

If there's no date I don't see how they can fail them as that is/was what the part worn tyre sellers do or did, but make sure that they do have the E mark

As I say there brand new toyos so all marking on them at the minute. We’ll see if they like em or not on Wednesday. Main thing is they have no cracks, bulges or splits.
