Update - he lives!!!

Postby mrges » Sun, 07 Nov 2021 9:07 +0000

Just a quick hello to all...... I haven't been on here since July, and I have no idea why. I think I let life get in the way, and then suddenly it was today! Stripey is still on the go and, somewhat ironically seeing that I haven't been on here, he has been used a lot this year (not a daily driver, but much more regular outings than normal). I'm determined to keep using the car - that's what it was designed for!

Any way, hope all are well, and I'm going to head over and catch up with what I've missed.

It's nice to hear that you've had good use of it this year, it's been pretty quiet here for a long time so I don't think you missed much

Hi Pops! Yes, (unfortunately) it didn't take too long to catch up on stuff here. Stripey was given a (basic) service (filters/oil/plugs) and driven! I also seemed to be kept distracted by some MX5 literature (which I'm still reading through). At the moment the hard top is on, and his home is being extended! Still considering a respray, but that might be a project for further down the line.

Hope all is well - and you are still enjoying your "fleet"

You have some good reading material also the building work looks great, you'll be spoilt when it's finished.
My fleet changed slightly, still have the mx5 but sold the merc as I didn't get much use of it, even though I have full use of my sons car while he is using my work car, somehow I missed having my own daily use car so I bought a honda civic, it's spending as much time idle but it's nice to have my own and not worry about a car that isn't mine.
I very slowly built a shed of sorts for my daughter during the summer, the price of materials is gone crazy

....I thought the merc was a keeper (you put a fair bit of effort into it - yet, if it's not being used then you might as well move it on and let someone else enjoy it).

And you are so right about building materials - when first discussing extending the garage, a sheet of insulation was €14. When it was decided to go ahead with it (about 6 months later) the same sheet cost €42!!!!

Ya the merc was a nice comfortable car but it seemed to get left on the driveway all summer as I made good use of the mx5. Merc sold in a couple of days of putting it on dd, the civic isn't anywhere near as nice to drive but a much less valuable ornament

Great you have the car back where it belongs. And such a pity that FB killed off so many forums.

Heh, I know the feeling, too many projects so never have "time" :-) I've also been using the green '5 way more than I thought I would this year, the weather has helped by being fairly mild.
