Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?nice one, sorted.
Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?Changed front LHS wheel hub, which got rid of a grinding noise when cornering hard on a roundabout.
Changed Fuel filter, which was at least 55k miles old (8 yrs old) but I suspect much much older. Finally a big cheap win !! The 10AE wasnt running 100% since coming out of storage, throttle response is back (so much better) not bogging down when pulling off. The Filter was a balls of job, I removed fuel pump relay & left it stall out to depressurize system but the petrol still pissed out of the tank side lines, NB has some weird clips that you need to pull and push at the same time to remove lines then swap over to the new filter while getting a golden shower no matter how careful you are Also have HT leads to fit yet but wanted to test fuel filter first. Also got some 75w90 Synth diff oil to replace next. got part from Mx5 NI, good quick service would recommend. I treated myself to 2 more axel stand in Halfords on sale, Also bought an el cheapo DA polisher in Argos for myself to burn up some XMas oneforall , great deal on both items https://www.halfords.ie/tools/garage-wo ... 57131.html https://www.argos.ie/static/Product/par ... LISHER.htm happy new year to all Edit HT leads fitted too, running better after this too, A great tune up combined with the overdue the fuel filer
Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?plugged a leaky tyre
https://photos.app.goo.gl/EF3h4faLGGSjznn57 Replaced diff oil, i tried refilling it with a 12v pump, wasn't the best idea ever started good but got pretty messy vhttps://photos.app.goo.gl/RNp1dYzNkeBNZrv5A
Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?I think those electric pumps are a good idea but hard to get switched off in time, probably more suitable for draining fluid rather than filling.
If you're doing the gearbox, I made a fill tube from some plastic type household water pipe, much easier to get the oil into the box You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?Very good, i think i will get a funnel and use gravity feed method with some tubing
Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?Ya, that's the way I did it, I brought the pipe up beside the exhaust, it was the only pipe I had other than garden hose but that kinked so could not use it
Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?Something like this would be useful, not in galway shop but motor factors might have some

Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?So it only took a few month to get back to my soggy mediocre brakes. I got a full set of pads and new rear disks. All Brembo, i was always pretty under whelmed by the blue print parts last fitted a few years ago. Also the front callipers i replaced in November, one was not bedded in 100%, this was a good calliper that I replaced to match the off side that was totally locked up. And of course the good for good one swap now gave the issues. The pads were wearing unevenly, and I don’t thing it was applying full pressure. I bleed this again and re-greased the pins with the proper super expensive rear grease. It seems to move more freely now, coudl be a dud new caliper to so failing this il put back on the old calliper again
So i replaced all Pads and the rear disks. The front disks are fine. The outgoing rear ones were actually fine too but were corroded badly and I'm sick of looking at them. I have Brembo’s on my golf GTI all round they are good and lasting well 3 yrs. later, The rear pads were pretty tricky to fit in place and one of the calliper would not wind back so I replaced that too. I had an awful battle with the handbrake cable which I lost trying to release it off the old calliper. I finally realized the whole bracket could swap from calliper-to-calliper so i was just banging my head against the wall the whole time horary. Anyway, all fitted a a quick bleed all-round. A quick bleed, no way, Yes Way. After failing with several other methods (one way valves, vacuum pumps etc) I have replaced my assistant Wife with a shovel and it worked out pretty well and there was definably less argument. !! Next I to start undersealing the rear end, i also need to order the 1L busing set & fix u pmy rotted battery tray. https://photos.app.goo.gl/SKnxSMwWSjP6AeJw5 https://photos.app.goo.gl/sDCAyhpZU8ypodQB8 https://photos.app.goo.gl/RRTWhrbV7UiUoMTe7
Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?Wife might use a shovel on you if she sees that.
Old school bleeding gave the best results so. I had no problem getting replacement cables when I did mine, kd auto parts were able to get them no problem
Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?i swapped the sticky 'new' caliper out again and a quick bleed and finally have good firm brakes !! horary. The cheap caliper I replaced was definitely not sized correctly or just a dud, The old caliper moved so much more freely on the slipers. I had to swap out the bleed nipple as the old one was totally blocked up. While on a roll I also removed the Charcoal canister and piping. This cleans up the engine bay significantly,. Going to look at a cold side air intake next. I also started experimenting with a super quick engine cleaning up using tyre shine (in localized areas). I'm not very keen on hosing out engines. Not the best conditions on a very wet night in the shed but shows some very promising results. I don't think my engine was every cleaned in 23 years.

Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?That cleaned up nicely, hairspray is very useful for engine bays as well, just don't spray it while the engine is running.
Does removing the charcoal filter have any benefits besides a bit less clutter
Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?less clutter, tiny bit of weight relief. From what I've read the originals are unlikely to be operational after 20+ year now anyways.
