I'm trying to remove my current Bose stereo (standard on my 10ae) and replace it with an aftermarket stereo from Lidl.
Problem - can't extract the old one - has 2 small holes on each side - have used a wire coat hanger pressed in both holes on both sides - it certaintly lossens it but it won't pull out - is there anything else i should be looking for ?
Also should i disconnect the battery or fuse beforehand ?
Cheers
Robin

Hi Rob,
I changed mine a few weeks back.........i had to remove the centre console (easy), then remove the bottom screws holding in the centre dash facia (easy), flip it up, then remove some fixing brackets the old stereo was screwed to - maybe yours is the same?
also,i did'nt disconnect the battery - its up to you really. If you are going to expose wires etc, maybe a good idea, but i got away with it.
If its a plug and play affair, you'll be grand.
O.

Hi Robin,
Oh, heres a handy write-up on the subject :

Yes, disconnect the battery, I found that pushing those coat hanger wires in a bit further than they feel like they should go did the trick for me. Its v.v.fiddly tho..

Hi Robin,
the proper clips have little notches at the end so that they lock in place and allow the stereo to be withdrawn easily. I should have a set at home somewhere. I'll see if I can find them this evening, and if I can I'll drop them round to you.
Failing that, the coathanger is the way to go. You should feel a slight click when they're in far enough to release the catch, then use your fingertips to slide the stereo out.

Ok after much cursin, raw fingers and broken implements managed to remove the old Bose stereo this evening - oh the satisfaction in looking into a big dark hole !!! Anyway removed new stereo from box connected all the leads, aerial, earth, powered up and het presto likes cameras action but no sound ?????? - okay back to the connections and the instructions (don't usually bother with these until i've ucked up) - so it appears I have'nt connected the speakers - might explain why i have no sound - problem - the connector in the car for the speakers is a square thingy however the connectors for the speakers in the back of the new stereo are small round holes - like smaller versions of the aerial socket - question - can I buy an adaptor somewhere or do I have to go about rewiring and using masses of masking tape ????
Have to say the stereo looks the bus when its all lit up - will tire of this very soon I expect unless I get some sound - my daughters have specifically asked me not to start singing to compensate - hmmmm
Cheers
