Cam belt....what's involved ?

Postby 93 Mk1 » Thu, 25 Sep 2008 2:00 +0000

Hi guys,

My '93 Mk1 is due to have it's cam belt changed. Can anyone tell me if
if's straight forward ? Is the water pump run off the belt also and what
else should I replace while I'm at it ?

Also over the last few days I have noticed a squeak when I reverse
when the clutch is left out. If I leave the car roll back in neutral or in
reverse with the clutch pressed in then it's fine. Any ideas ??
Maybe the mice have moved in........!

the reverse issue is prob a squeaky thrust bearing.. next time you get the clutch changed have a look at it.

Hmmmm I was hoping the squeak would be an easy fix ! Drat !
Still, I'll have it put up on a ramp on Monday and see what I can find....
