18 discsHad trouble with my 1.6 93 Eunos brakes and thanks to advise on last tech day I got the brake fluid changed. This improved them but think they could be better. Has anyone got 1.8 discs for sale as this is probebly the next thing to try ( have already changed pads ). Will changing the hoses for braided ones make any difference ?.

Re: 18 discsBren,
1.8 discs I think need new carriers and calipers too - its a popular upgrade for many. ![]()
![]() Re: 18 discs1.8 discs wont fit under 1.6 calipers and caliper mounts
I have a set of good full set of 1.8 brakes off a mark2 here atm includes caliper, caliper mounts , used discs and pads all round £200 whatever you do , please , please dont buy those drilled and grooved discs off ebay , you will regret it. Standard discs from your local motorfactors will be fine tho. ive used adl and blueprint without issue. They warp and crack between the drilled out holes.... ive seen this first hand. The set i seen was only a yr old and had never seen a track. another thought, before you go spending cash , have you checked that your sliders are all fine ? any corrosion ? are you using copper slip or red rubber grease ? dont use copper slip on the sliders. i find brakes can be freed up quite a bit with a good old service.
Re: 18 discsHi Bren,
To upgrade to 1.8 brakes, all you need is the 1.8 caliper mount brackets + 1.8 disks + 1.8 pads. The calipers on the 1.6 and 1.8 are the same (until '01). Heres a how-to: http://www.bigllama.com/miata/brake/bigbrake.htm and another : http://www.miata.net/hakuna/0003/h0001.htm Regards, Steve
![]() Re: 18 discsbren i changed my brakes recently from 1.6 to 1.8 but got ebc green stuff pads and goodridge brake hoses the same time, the difference is massive, would definatly recommend you getting them the same time if you can

Re: 18 discswhat was the intial problem with the brakes?
As Charged said DO NOT BUY CHEAP DRILLED AND GROOVED discs. They will crack. Drilled or grooved is ok.

Re: 18 discsBren,
Swap out the lot for 1.8 discs, pads and carriers. While you are at it, install braided lines, a nice upgrade and then replenish with new brake fluid. for brake parts, i used www.buypartsby.com ...very good prices, 1.8 discs starting @ just £12ea That will sort you! ![]()
![]() Re: 18 discsThe photo's a bit dark...
Have you changed teh pads?
Re: 18 discs
looks normal to me. The back brakes don't really get used anyway. The bias is towards the front. That said the back are known for sticking. check the caliper is working properly. What exactly is wrong anyway and what are you comparing them too?
Re: 18 discsmine are the same after being sitting up for a while, a good run usually cleans them up well.
Re: 18 discsPlus my 1.8 discs with fresh pads exhibit the same groovedness anyway

![]() Re: 18 discsThey just feel spongy and dont seem to stop the car quick enough. We have an 07 passat and you just have to touch the brakes to stop, I know its not like for like but I have owned many cars over the years and this MX5 just doesnt react quick enough. I'll upgrade to 1.8 and change hoses. The brake fluid is new and the pads about 6 mths old. Dont want any problems going round the ring
