Hi Guys,
I will start. Recently had my 03 MX in for NCT. It failed unfortunately:
Visual / Aural Defects:
- Brake Lines / Hoses (47 ) Extensive Corrosion Middle Rear - FAIL / REFUSAL
- Brake Lines / Hoses (47 ) Extensive Corrosion Nearside Rear - FAIL / REFUSAL
Test Results: FAIL/REFUSAL:
- The Vehicle is UNSAFE and should not be driven
Unfortunately our MX5s are HUGELY prone to rust and serious corrosion under the car. Even chassis corrosion from inside out - Corrosion of the 'Chassis Rails'. You would need your MX up on a ramp with a good inspection from a good mechanic to spot some of this.
From elsewhere - "The chassis rail rust is due to an enforced change to make the car pass collision safety regulations. "
Go GOOGLE Rust and MX5 - scarey stuff. Why hasnt MAZDA sorted this Achilles Heal issue with the MXes??
Go look at the pics here - not for the faint hearted - http://www.mx5nutz.com/forum/index.php? ... 131379&hl=
EVEN SCARIER - http://retrorides.proboards.com/thread/ ... _IKufldV8E
And yes - I have sill rust. Through outer metal down at driver side wheel arch / sill corner area. Tapped with a screw drives and all fell out . Hole now ( not all way through / Outer only ) about size of a UK £1 coin.
Dropping to mechanic tomorrow to get these brake lines sorted for retest ..
So - anyone else fail their NCT for this or any other fault?
