Naaaahh, Navy, than the world of modifications is your oyster. It's a great neutral starting point without any statements.
Trust me. NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY, NAVY

I'm not going to get into this silly colour debate. Welcome to the club. Take your time and get a good one. There are loads of them out there especially at the minute.
General buying advise, get a eunos (pref recent import) as they are higher spec'd and will have less rust. Take a good look at all the specials if money allows.
 Check out this link
http://www.mx5-3rdgenerationlimited.com/mx5limiteds.htm Also consider future again if money allows. A 1.8 is a better starting point if you ever decide to go turbo (bigger brakes, stronger diff etc) If you have no FI desire then some say the 1.6 is better.
 Oh yeah one last thing
Silver ones are best and i have heard that they are faster too.

Firstly, Silver ones are def not faster and especially not Auto ones Personally I think Jaguar Emerald green ones are best mainly cause its metalic and also cause its mine...
And Ash I challenge any of ye to beat me up the Healy and red ones fade...
black ones are cool though I have to say!Fla ---I'm back----

I would be careful on just buying an import Eunos. Remember, there is almost certainly no service history which might make the first 6months squeaky bum time and all the other issues too. Even if there was, not much good unless Nihongo o hanashite.
Also, please dont get a Mk1. Those horrible flip top headlights Just Ugllllyyyy Spend the cash get a Mk2.5 - sharknose. Drives the ladies wild.
Also, please not silver, BRG or red either. stand out and get yourself another colour. Although, must admit that mrges copper red does look good!.

Imports are the best and the ones that 'know' Mx5s know it to, you must have some connection with a dealership or something They have better paint, better wires, better condition, some come with some cool extras....list goes on and on.
Only 'suspect' imports are the ones from the EU

Wish I did, might save me money on the garage bills. I test drove a few J-imports from some "cowboy" importers (no-names obviously) and I would not necessarily agree with what you say above.
Anyway, as always with these things, do your background, give the car(s) the checks and you should mainly do fine....mainly!
 Just no more Mk1's

hmmmmmmmmmmm..........circle of MK1's around S.t.e.l.la 's car on Sunday perhaps????? Do what I did.........
Step One, drink a bottle of wine because you are turning thirty
Step Two, get into a discussion about things you always wanted
Step Three, allow the wine to mellow the body and turn on the internet
Step Four, buy a car from a Japanese auction website very late at night, agree the price and shipping, sweat it out that the car might not be a grade 4 out of 5 as stated.........wait 8 long weeks for the car to arrive
Step Five, pay the government OTT prices in tax/duty/VRT etc etc etc
Step Six, receive your car...fall in love....start to buy lots of extra 'little' things, pass the NCT cos the car is IMMACULATE and grin every day
Step Six, bask in the glory of knowing you were bloomin lucky and then beat up STELLA and BRG -haters!!!!
step Seven.........buy a MX5.....your choice in colour and era..........just.............you know......BRG Mk 1 rules the world.........
